Blepharitis is an inflammation of the eyelids and eyelashes. It affects people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. Some of the more common causes of blepharitis include poor eyelid hygiene, excessive oil production by the glands in the eyelid and/or bacterial infection. Symptoms may include crusting on the eyelids, red eyelids and a sensation of something ‘in the eye’. There are several different types of blepharitis. One is known as seborrheic blepharitis and is often associated with dandruff of the scalp. Another form is known as staph blepharitis. In many cases, good eyelid hygiene may control blepharitis. |
